He coached the Golden State Warriors from 1988 to 1995 and the New York Knicks from 1995 to 1996. Nelson coached the Dallas Mavericks from 1997 to 2005 and then the Golden State Warriors again from 2006 to 2010. As a coach he was named NBA Coach of the Year three times and was a head coach in the NBA All-Star Game twice. Nelson has been named as one of the Top 10 Coaches in NBA History. He also won a gold medal coaching the US men’s team at the 1994 FIBA World Championship. Nelson was inducted into the Naismith Memorial Basketball Hall of Fame in 2012. He announced in 2015 that he would build the first house made of hemp in Hawaii.
