There have only been two new Star Wars movies since Disney purchased the film rights and pledged to churn out one per year, and Kline’s figuring has Disney getting a little over a billion in profit (assuming Rogue One continues to perform to expectations). Which just goes to show, even on a sure thing like Star Wars, it can take a big company like Disney a few years to make their money back.

That $27 million places Elvis among the highest-earning dead celebrities of all time. And it comes from two main sources: album sales (which are still surprisingly robust), and Graceland. Comparing the two, it’s Graceland that’s the biggest earner, although it is interesting to note of the more than 1 million Elvis albums purchased per year, most of them are physical copies – a good indicator of Elvis’ aging audience. Other income streams for the Elvis estate include royalties from his various TV appearances and concerts, as well as DVD sales and fees for TV showings of his movies – not exactly popular or revered these days, but as “Elvis movies” they still have a built-in audience just like his music does.

Los Angeles having been chosen as the home of the museum is evidently the fruit of an unusual tactic employed by Lucas in order to find a place to house his collection of materials related to 20th century visual storytelling. This tactic involved lobbying both LA and San Francisco simultaneously for the privilege, which effectively set up a brief duel between the two cities, and now it’s Los Angeles who will receive the complex.

Why hasn’t the United States done something to fix this? Maybe because Uncle Sam is making TRILLIONS of dollars from the system. As Scott Burns pointed out in a recent The Dallas Morning News article, payments on student loans are made with after-tax income. Burns acknowledges students may graduate from college with a higher earning potential. But if they also graduate from a public school with an average amount of debt, they will owe approximately $25,550 of after-tax income.
FYI – The same $10,000 investment in Barnes and Noble would have given you a 26% return over the same time period. Oh, and the same Borders investment would be worth zero.
In a court filing yesterday, Bow Wow claimed he could not afford to pay $3000 a month in child support to his daughter Shai and ex-girlfriend oie. Bow Wow explained that his entire monthly income is $4000, which he receives as a roster artist for Cash Money Records. Bow Wow further explained that he has exactly $1500 in his checking account and is currently leasing a Jeep. His income will get a much needed boost now that he has been announced as the new host of BET’s “106 & Park”, but clearly Bow Wow is in some murky financial waters.
If you think that’s good, it’s even more worthwhile for a college football coach to get fired. Consider the case of Kirk Ferentz, the head coach at the University of Iowa. He’s making $4.5 million this year, but if he’s fired after the season ends, he’d be owed more than five times that amount. If Iowa lets him go, he’ll make more than $25 million, to be paid out in monthly installments until 2026.

If all goes according to plan, Peele’s next film as director, writer, and producer will be another “social thriller” in the vein of Get Out. But even though it’s closer to Peele’s previous success story than an Akira remake would have been, it will still have a significantly larger scale than its predecessor, with a reported budget about “five times bigger” than the one Get Out (which was also distributed by Universal) was made with.
If you like to drive fast cars, The Mercedes-Maybach S600 Pullman might not be the car for you. On the other hand if you like to sit back and be surrounded by luxury (and you have a chauffeur), it might be perfect. The Pullman nameplate recently made a comeback but then slowly faded away. It is now back again with the Mercedes-Maybach S600 Pullman, which made its debut at the 2015 Geneva Motor Show.
